Process Automation with Process Cloud Service (PCS) – Part 2 (Forms) by Daniel Teixeira

image

In the previous post I created a simple business process, but with no real implementation details. It was just a framework.

Now, I will show how to create a Form to start the Process. Remember that there are many ways of stating a process, but for this case the Form is the way to go.

How to Create a Form

You can create a Form from two different places.

  1. The Form Menu on the left side. (left pic)
  2. From within the Form properties in the Model. (right pic)

With this first option you can choose to create a new Form from within PCS, or to bring an ExternalUI – from VBCS for example.

The second has the advantage of assigning the form directly to the process activity. Read the complete article here.

Process Automation with Process Cloud Service (PCS) – Part 1 by Daniel Teixeira

image

Earlier in my career I worked extensively with a Business Process Management (BPM) software called Cordys (meanwhile acquired by OpenText). Had a couple of trainings on BEA Aqualogic BPM Suite (now Oracle). Later on, while working for TIBCO I had several trainings and a bit of project experience with their BPM solution.

Most of the BPM concepts are familiar to me, but over the years they became quite rusty So this is a good time to dive a bit more into a component of the Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC). I am talking about the Process Cloud Service (PCS), and this will be a series of posts dedicated to exploring PCS capabilities!

Somehow BPM seems to be out of use nowadays and Process Automation became the trendy designation!

The Concepts

Processes are based on BPM Notation (BPMN) – https://www.bpmn.org/

“A standard Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) will provide businesses with the capability of understanding their internal business procedures in a graphical notation and will give organizations the ability to communicate these procedures in a standard manner. “

The Use Case

In the upcoming posts I will work out a very simple, yet relatable, use case.

A process to manage an employee vacation request .

Granted, if you are self employed this makes no sense, but if you work for a company with a couple hundred or thousands of employees, then the need to manage this process becomes obvious.

Departments/Teams internal planning may require a process to manage this, and on top of that, they may have some business rules that need to be implemented ( example: an entire team cannot take vacations at the same time). Read the complete article here.

Process Archiving by Niall Commiskey

imageOne may need to archive process instances for compliance purposes and what better place to store those completed instances than OCI Object Storage.

Here is the OCI bucket –

The password entered in Configuring Services above is NOT your oracle cloud password.

Rather – I approve 9 human tasks, completing 9 simple process instances – just that I’ve something to archive. Simple so far – now to defining the archiving schedule -  Only 6 minutes to go, so let’s wait for the magic to happen… Back in object storage land… Read the complete article here.

Consolidate tasks from Oracle applications cloud and other applications into a single list of tasks by Mani Krishnan

image

In today’s enterprise, users must expect to multitask in order to achieve higher productivity. Thus, tasks and lists of tasks become necessary features of most enterprise applications-such as ERP, HCM or CRM–for improving user productivity. Tasks can range from simple to-dos that remind the assignee about activities outside the application to approvals for HR, finance or sales transactions.

Enterprise users commonly must deal with multiple task lists from applications from various vendors and from homegrown applications.  For a single user to access multiple web sites to look up tasks on a daily basis defeats the purpose that tasks lists are meant to serve.

For example, Oracle provides a common list of tasks for integrated cloud applications, such as HCM, ERP, Supply chain and Sales.  Additionally, customers might want to extend the approval capabilities with PaaS, by using business process management (BPM) products such as Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC)-process.  In such scenarios, the users would be required to check two lists of tasks.

A list of tasks that consolidates tasks from multiple applications can significantly improve productivity of enterprise users by eliminating the need to check multiple lists for any pending activity and take action. Read the complete article here.

Microprocess Consequences by Jan Kettenis

image

In a previous blog article I introduced the Microprocess Architecture. The article below discusses the consequences of maintaining, managing and running applications that are build according to this architecture.

We are applying the Microprocess Architecture to some 4 Dynamic Process applications that are being built with the Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) for some one and a half year already, but none of them went production so far. We can clearly see the benefits of applying the Microprocess Architecture, but also realize the consequences. I have addressed most of these with some pointers for dealing with them in a follow-up article on the subject.

As the go-live date slowly but inevitably is nearing, people obviously start wondering what the consequences regarding maintaining, managing and running such applications mean in the context of OIC. The below discusses this, referring to a “business process” as the main application that is made up by a collection of microprocesses.

The following picture shows the core concepts of the Microprocess Architecture in the context of a case application: The case application with its activities is separated from the components that do the "actual work": the microprocesses. The case application does only the choreography and therefore is restricted to rule logic. The microprocesses are relatively small and simple stand-alone process application doing service calls and handling human tasks. Read the complete article here.

Archiving and Purging Process Automation Data in Oracle Integration by Arvind Venugopal and Nilakshi Soni

image

What data is generated by Process in Oracle Integration

Large volumes of data are generated during the life of each process instance. This data collected can be broadly divided into two. Instance data and Analytics data.

  • Instance Data:    This is instance specific data generated at each step during execution. It includes the payload, comments, execution and audit information.
  • Analytics Data:   Additional system metrics and user defined business metrics are also collated and stored at predefined events during the lifecycle of an instance. This data exists independently of the instance data
Archive Process data in Oracle Integration

Archiving is taking data which is no longer actively used and storing it in an external secondary storage where it can be retained for extended time. This archived data can be accessed, if needed, for compliance, audit, and analytics. Archiving the right data can not only save businesses money, but also intelligence derived using this will add value to the business. The following questions are often asked when users are setting up archive: what all data should be archived, how to setup archiving and finally how to retrieve data from the archived file. The purpose of these blogs is to discuss couple of options which will answer these very questions.
When planning an archiving strategy best suited for your needs one must give thought to some basic questions like

  • how often you would need to retrieve data from the archive
  • what data needs to be available for legal and regulatory compliance
  • what data set could be analyzed to add value to the business over time etc.
  • what insights are relevant for your business. Read the complete article here.
