Oracle acquired Apiary

image

On January 19, 2017, Oracle announced that it signed an agreement to acquire Apiary, which creates the most comprehensive API Integration Cloud by adding the leading API design and governance solution. The proposed transaction is subject to customary closing conditions. Until the transaction closes, each company will continue to operate independently.

Apiary’s pioneering APIFlow solution provides the framework and tools for developing application programming interfaces (APIs) that share enterprise services and data and help create modern, cloud-based applications and experiences. APIFlow spans the API creation lifecycle, including design, governance, testing, and documentation, while supporting API Blueprint and OpenAPI industry standards. Apiary has helped companies create hundreds of thousands of APIs and products that their customers and partners love to use.

Together, Oracle and Apiary will help companies thrive in the digital economy by comprehensively managing connectivity complexity and API proliferation. Oracle’s existing API Integration Cloud already enables companies to secure, consume, monetize, and analyze APIs. Apiary provides the front-end solution for designing, creating and governing APIs and the combination will deliver the most complete API creation and management platform in the cloud. The Middleware track in this event offers you a choice.

  • Track 1: The Internet of Things
This track starts with a look at IoT in the enterprise and an examination of three different architectures that incorporate the Oracle IoT Cloud Service. The next session drills down into a reference architecture that includes the IoT Cloud Service, plus Oracle’s Integration, Process, Big Data, and Mobile Cloud Services, and presents a demo showing the development of a vending machine case. The third and final IoT session shows you how to connect devices to the IoT Cloud Service and how to use Stream Explorer to display sensor data from those devices in a web application.
  • Track 2: WebLogic 12.2.1 and Java EE
This track presents three in-depth technical sessions covering different aspects of WebLogic 12.2.1. The first is an extensive, code-driven introduction to developing Java EE 7 applications with WebLogic 12.2.1. OpenWorld 2015: Finally a real Vision and Mission. A pleasant surprise by Robbrecht van Amerongen

clip_image001For me the 2015 Oracle OpenWorld was a pleasant surprise.  The surprise was not the announcement of an additional set of cloud products like the Identity Cloud or the Application Builder Cloud Service. The biggest surprise was the different tone of voice during the conference.

In the past you could summarize Oracle’s message as: We are Bigger and Better in technology, Open Source is bad,  Cloud is important, We (Oracle) Offer a full set of products and you do not have to look at other vendors. All your problems will be solved when you buy Oracle.

There is a change happening in Oracle, and the most important change is not the new products. Is a change in market approach, culture and structure.

Larry finally found his vision and mission

The change was visible in the Sunday and Tuesday keynote by Oracle’s CTO Larry Ellison. After a long time Oracle finally has a vision. And surprisingly it has nothing to do with technology. The vision steers Oracle in a completely different direction. Oracle needs to transform from a tech company to a services organization. It was definitely an inspiring keynote. The SAAS, PAAS, and IAAS business is taken very serious. I expected a full blown attack on Amazon and Salesforce,  but Larry is seeing them as inspiring example.  The CTO of Oracle seemed to have found his new horizon and he is eager to get there. He really looked like he enjoyed it again.

The full stack offering is not the only choice  anymore
