Process Cloud Service –> Quickstart apps by Niall Commiskey

image

Nice feature this…
As the docs says –
Choose a QuickStart App to quickly create an application and learn about Process Cloud Service. QuickStart Apps include all the implementation details needed to play and deploy them. Use these applications as a ready-to-use application to deploy or as a starting point to adapt by making changes such as editing task titles, modifying the web form, or adding new task actions. Process Cloud Service – Web Form Design Approaches by Antonis Antoniou

image

Oracle Process Cloud Service uses a standards-based technology called "Web Forms" for defining the user interface in business processes. It’s based on standards such as XHTML, CSS and JavaScript and allows business analysts and developers to create an end-user interface by just using the browser.
There are three approaches that can be employed when designing web forms:
Form-First: You can follow a "Form-First" approach where you create the form first before any data elements are defined and you let PCS by just drag and dropping components from the component palette to the page. Oracle PCS will automatically generate the schema that defines the data required by the web form.

The schema that is automatically generated by Oracle PCS is based on the web form controls added to the web form and can be located under "Business Types" section.

When you assign the web form to a human task activity, the schema generated by Oracle PCS will automatically be used to define the human task data structure.
Data-First: A data-first approach implies a bottom-up approach where you create a web form based on data sources or business objects by just drag and dropping the objects on the form to create controls.

PCS, MCS and MAF Integration by Rubén Rodríguez Santiago

clip_image002I have just published my first OTN Tech Article where I present a use case that demonstrates how Oracle Process Cloud Service (Oracle PCS), Oracle Mobile Cloud Service (Oracle MCS) and Oracle Mobile Application Framework (Oracle MAF) can be use together to expose  an Oracle PCS process instance as a web service and consume it clip_image003from an external system, web application or mobile application.
"Oracle Process Cloud Service is a Platform as a Service (PaaS) provided by Oracle Cloud, allows you to rapidly design, automate, and manage business processes in the cloud."

clip_image004"Oracle Mobile Cloud Service is Oracle’s Mobile Backend as a Service (MBaaS) and enables companies to create and deploy scalable, robust, and secure mobile applications quickly and easily."

"Oracle Mobile Application Framework is a hybrid mobile framework that provides a visual and declarative development experience for the rapid development of multi-platform applications" You can check the full article here.

Feature

Description

Documents and Conversations

On the Workspace Tracking page, administrators can now click the Conversations icon in addition to the Documents icon and view conversations associated with a selected instance.

On the Configure UI Customizations page, an option that lets you hide comments displayed on the Tasks page and Tracking page has been added. This option is valid only if you integrated Oracle Documents Cloud Service with Oracle Process Cloud Service, and you enabled conversations.

QuickStart Master

On the Personalize page, the options for the Item field have been improved.

· You can now customize the activities in a subprocess.

· The list is now organized by swimlane followed by all the activities for that lane. If there is a subprocess, then the list expands to show all activities for the subprocess as well. An option to search the list has also been added. These new features make it easier to find the element you want to customize.

See Decide What Settings Users Can Customize in Using Oracle Process Cloud Service.

Embeddable Process UI Components

The embeddable UI components feature includes several enhancements:

· Reorganized the toolbar and grouped UI components into cookbook.

· Added support for web forms in task details.

· Added support for conversations.

· Added the DevTool option, which lets you bring up the REST API in an interactive format so you can enter and test your code. Read the complete article here.

Best practice for calling web services from Oracle Process Cloud Service by Lykle Thijssen

clip_image002

More often than not, you will want your processes to interact with other services or processes inside or outside your enterprise. Since integration options are rather typical in Oracle Process Cloud Service, this article will help you to apply best practices for creating and managing your connections in a sustainable fashion.

Process Cloud integration points

Let’s say you have modelled a process in Oracle Process Cloud Service (PCS) for a private home loan application. Chances are quite high that this process will need some extra information to make the right decisions, like a credit check or a risk assessment and you will want to store the result of the application somewhere, for example in a database.
This requires several integration points in your PCS application. Now if you would directly import the WSDLs of those web services that you need to integrate with, it’s most likely not going to work. For example, Oracle Policy Automation, which you can use for risk assessment, has a highly generic interface and without XSLT support in PCS, you can’t make a proper request. Other services might require WS-Addressing or other technical aspects that PCS doesn’t support, so you need to put something in between. For this something, you can use various SOA and Service Bus products or Oracle’s Integration Cloud Service, once it has matured some more to deal with web services properly.

Creating the interface – challenges

So, you have decided to put one or more layers of services between PCS and the web services that you need to invoke. Regardless of your architecture, you need to keep some considerations in mind: Read the complete article here.

  • Process Conversations
  • Enhanced Local and Remote App Deployment
  • New Tablet App

New Pricing Metrics:

PCS pricing has moved to a 3-tier hosted named user model to accommodate varying levels of process service interaction from those who require full access to composition and management capabilities, to participants assigned review and approval tasks, to those whose interactions are limited to making service requests. This new pricing model helps maintain competitive pricing in use cases where there are large numbers of casual users. Below are the subscription pricing details. Metered pricing uses the same metrics at 2x the cost.

Oracle Process Cloud:

· $100 per Hosted Named User per Month

· Defined as a named user who can access analytics, compose applications and manage lifecycle

· Required minimum of 10 Users, 12-Months minimum contract

· Requires Oracle Process Cloud – Participant User

Oracle Process Cloud – Participant User:

· $30 per Hosted Named User per Month

· Defined as a named user who can participate in process approvals and tracking

· Required minimum of 10 Users, 12-Months minimum contract

· Requires Oracle Process Cloud

Oracle Process Cloud – Invocation User:

· $3 per Hosted Named User per Month

· Defined as a named user who can initiate a process and query status and notifications

· No minimum required – minimum of 100 Users if purchased, 12-Months minimum contract

· Requires Oracle Process Cloud

Sample Apps:

Sample Apps provide a quick and easy way to create and configure fully functional Process Apps with minimal technical knowhow. PCS includes a catalog of predefined ready to run Sample Apps that can be used both to provide first time designers a quick introduction to creating Process Apps and Business IT users easy to configure tailor made apps for a variety of use cases. IT and partners can publish their Process Apps as Sample Apps with specific pre-defined configurations allowing Business IT to quickly create, configure and deploy tailor made Process Apps.

Process Conversations:

Process Apps now support the addition of a process level conversation within the context of assigned tasks to allow stakeholders and participants to collaborate and streamline getting work done. Process Conversations also support various options to configure process activity stream messages that automatically update the conversation with process milestones.

Enhanced Local and Remote App Deployment:

Process App deployment has been enhanced to support complete segregation of test and production data. Test and Player functionality has been simplified to allow designers to either step through the Process App one activity at a time or run the Process App from the Workspace in Test Mode to experience the app from the perspective of an end-user. Production deployment has been enhanced to support deploying the Process App to the local environment or directly to remote environments.

New Tablet App:

A new universal Process Mobile App now supports native tablet form factors for both iOS and Android platforms. The tablet app takes advantage of the larger screen real-estate to provide an improved experience for managing tasks and initiating process requests.

Start Process App from Mobile:

Process participants can now remotely initiation process requests directly from their mobile App. Onboard camera support allows the user to capture pictures that are uploaded to Documents Cloud Service and displayed in context to downstream task participants.
