Oracle Public Cloud – Invoking ICS endpoints from SOA CS – configure SSL certificate and basic authentication. By Lucas Jellema

image

As part of the Soaring through the Clouds demo of 17 Oracle Public Cloud services, I had to integrate SOA CS with both ACCS (Application Container Cloud) and ICS (Integration Cloud Service).

Calls from Service Bus and SOA Composites running in SOA Suite 12c on SOA CS to endpoints on ACCS (Node.js Express applications) and ICS (REST connector endpoint) were required in this demo. These calls are over SSL (to https endpoints) and for ICS also require basic authentication (at present, ICS endpoints cannot be invoked anonymously).

This article shows the steps for taking care of these two aspects:

  • ensure that the JVM under SOA Suite on SOA CS knows and trusts the SSL certificate for ACCS or ICS
  • ensure that the call from SOA CS to ICS carries basic authentication details

The starting point is a SOA Composite that corresponds with the preceding figure – with external references to DBaaS (through Database Adapter), ICS (to call an integration that talks to Twitter) and ACCS (to invoke a REST API on NodeJS that calls out to the Spotify API): Read the complete article here.

Applying configuration management and related dev practises – ICS Definitive Guide #3 by Phil Wilkins

image

Good development practises such as  configuration management and naming conventions have been a topic of conversation a number of times recently for us when it comes to ICS. In this post we will look at what configuration management means to ICS and the application of naming standards.

Why Configuration Management?

So why do we need configuration management with a tool such as ICS? The question depends on what stage of the software lifecycle you are, but a few reasons:

  • As a developer there have been occasions where we have tried to optimise something and then decided to reverted back to the last secured state in configuration control.
  • Deleted something and then regretted it, whilst desktops have the concept of paper basket to recover from, not so in ICS.
  • If your providing packages of ICS functionality you may have different released versions – so need to keep master copies of every version available to refer to.
  • Sometimes we get ‘configuration drift’ – and therefore need to have a reference point to compare to. This allows us to determine the drift and if it is appropriate to reset an environment. Whilst this may sound less significant, it is enough of a problem for tools like Puppet to incorporate the ability. Read the complete article here.

Get Started with Oracle Integration Cloud Services- Introduction (1/4) by Pulkit Mathur

image

Recently, I got the chance to work with a limited-time trial of Integration Cloud Services provided by Oracle. This is a blog to help you get started on understanding what Integration Cloud Services is about.

Introduction:

Integration Cloud Service and SOA Cloud Service are two cloud integration products that have been launched by Oracle in recent times.

The first question that arises is why two products? The primary difference between the two is the range of functions that can be done. While SOA CS is basically SOA Suite in the cloud, and intended for hardcore developers who are used to working with SOA Suite and want to continue leveraging it’s multiple capabilities like MDS and the ability to achieve very complex integrations; ICS is more of a lightweight service that can be used to achieve simple, lightweight integrations that do not require much complexity. Oracle intends ICS to be used by technically inclined clients without the need for a hardcore developer to come in and save the day!

In my opinion, the main differentiating factor of ICS from other integration cloud products is the rich variety of connectors that they offer (currently 50) that includes connections to other cloud products like RightNow, Eloqua, SalesCloud and various social media like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and a lot more.

Without further ado, let’s get started with how to request a trial of ICS from Oracle:

1)    Go to cloud.oracle.com

2) Click on ‘Try It’ on the top right corner, and scroll down to ‘Integration’ Read the complete article here.

Oracle’s integration-centric PaaS portfolio is flourishing as a unified hybrid integration platform – an Ovum report

image

Oracle OpenWorld 2017 provided a good opportunity to gain insight into the level of success of Oracle’s integration-centric PaaS portfolio in a competitive middleware-as-a-service (MWaaS) market. It is evident that within a period of just three years, Oracle has achieved rapid business growth for this set of PaaS products and a critical market momentum that has resulted in several thousands of customers for individual, integration-centric PaaS products. This is a good case in point for demonstrating how effective execution against a progressive PaaS product strategy can drive rapid adoption, business growth, and penetration into new enterprise user bases. Oracle has ensured uniformity in user experience (UX) and integration at platform/component API level to deliver a well-integrated set of MWaaS products. Get the report here.
