Steve Millidge, C2B2 Consulting

Steve is the director and founder of C2B2 Consulting – a specialist Java consultancy focusing exclusively on achieving non-functional requirements. Steve has used Java extensively since pre1.0 and has been a field based professional service consultant for over 15 years. Through C2B2 he now focuses on the configuration of JEE and SOA infrastructure for maximum Scalability, Performance, Availability, Recoverability, Manageability and Security. Having worked for and on behalf of Oracle, BEA and Red Hat professional services he has extensive experience of deploying large scale production Java systems. Steve is an expert group member of JSR107 (Java Caching), JSR286 (Portlets) and JSR347 (Data Grids). Steve has spoken at a number of events including Java One, JBoss User Group, JBoss World, UK Oracle User Group Conference, UK Coherence SIG, The Server Side Symposium, Community One and regularly presents technical workshops on Data Grids and Coherence.

Cloud-based Enterprise Architecture

We know service-oriented architectures can deliver huge agility benefits for developing new functionality through repeated service reuse. However, if our shared services become highly used, they may be subjected to massively increased loads from runtime events that we, as service owners, cannot predict. With the significant return on investment gained with the deployment of public and private clouds, virtualization technology is now making it possible to combine SOA infrastructures with monitoring and APM tools to elastically scale out service deployments in response to real-time load increases.

This session will take a technical deep dive into a service-oriented architecture engineered specifically for elasticity. The following questions will be explored:

  • How can I monitor the load on my Services?
  • How can I fire up additional compute capacity as a service becomes loaded?
  • How do I architect my SOA deployment to utilise the power and flexibility of a private or public cloud?
  • How do I deploy UDDI to ensure clients can fully utilise new capacity?
  • How can I see what is happening on my ESB infrastructure?
This talk is aimed at for architects and developers who have moved beyond "playing" with SOA in the cloud, and are looking to deploy SOA into a cloud-based production environment.

SOA Governance at EDP: A Global Energy Company

Energias de Portugal (EDP) ranks among Europe’s major electricity and natural gas operators in the generation, distribution and trading industries. It’s one of the largest players wind energy companies in the world, with more than tem million customers and twelve-thousand workers. In this session hear how an SOA Governance initiative is helping EDP to streamline integrations between systems, establishing a model that closes the gap between business and IT, reducing time-to-market and increasing IT asset reusability.

Information systems play a central role in supporting the business challenges energy companies are facing, as new businesses are developed, as the energy grid and the relationship with customers is changing at a faster pace. EDP operates in a sector where those challenges are particularly acute and where the appropriate SOA approach is of paramount importance. In this presentation we will talk about the challenges of the SOA Governance Program’s definition and implementation, and how the initial plan and subsequent global SOA Governance Framework evolved through EDP’s projects.

September 25, 2012 – 15:30

Manuel Rosa, began his career participating in Enterprise Architecture projects in Portugal, Brazil and Luxembourg, mainly focusing on Application and Business Architectures. In the last few years, he coordinated the development of the SOA Governance Programs and has also been responsible for various SOA Governance projects, in main Portuguese enterprises in the Telecom and Utilities’ industries. He is currently SOA Governance practice leader as the SOA at Link Consulting.

He is also currently teaching assistant on the subjects of Enterprise Architecture I and II, for the POSI postgraduate degree provided by Intituto Superior Técnico, INESC and INOV in a one year program.

Process Accelerator Kit

Oracle is very interested to co-develop and market with you, our partners, pre-defined processes for BPM Suite.
I am very happy to announce a new program called “Oracle BPM Partner Solution Catalog”. This program will provide a one-stop shop for our customers looking for Oracle BPM partner solutions available in the market today.
The Oracle BPM Solution Catalog will be hosted on our very popular Oracle Technology Network (OTN). To give you an idea of the scale of customer visibility, OTN today receives over 1Million hits per day from our business and developer community. We would like to invite you to list your Oracle BPM 11g solutions available today.
In order to participate in this program, you need to do the following:

  • Fill in the attached slide templates – #3 and #4 for each Oracle BPM 11g solution you would like to list on OTN.
Please add links to whitepapers , videos, references to the specific solution in the template slide. We recommend that you create a landing page on your website for these linked artifacts and just point to the same from within the PowerPoint template. This will give you the flexibility to update the information as frequently as needed. If you have the particular solution in production or a reference available, please list them as well.
  • Send the PowerPoint template slides (1 set of slides for each Oracle BPM solution) to Payal.srivastava@oracle.com.

In addition to having the opportunity to list your solutions on OTN for Oracle customers, you will have the chance to advertise your new wins/implementations/solutions in an Oracle Sponsored PM Webinar held every quarter.

This program is targeted to go live by the end of summer 2012. At this point, we are targeting a soft launch in July end 2012 so send on your BPM solutions information as soon as possible. We would love to have your solution(s) listed in the “Oracle BPM Partner Solution Catalog” at the time of the launch. This will be a live repository so you can keep adding more solutions as they become available.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us Payal.srivastava@oracle.com, Product Strategy Director, Oracle BPM , Phone +1 650.506.5486.
Thank you and look forward to hearing from you.

BPM Standard Edition – to start your BPM project

Oracle have launched the new BPM Standard Edition. BPM Standard Edition is an entry level BPM offering designed to help organisations implement their first few processes in order to prove the value of BPM within their own organisation. Based on the highly regarded BPM Suite, BPM SE is a restricted use license that is licensed on a Named User basis. This new commercial offering gives Partners and Oracle the opportunity to address new markets and fast track adoption of Oracle BPM by starting small and proving the Return on Investment by working closely with our Customers. This is a great opportunity for Partners to use BPM SE as a core element of your own BPM ‘go to market’ value propositions. Please contact either Juergen Kress or Mike Connaughton if you would like to make these value propositions available to the Oracle Field Sales organisation and to advertise them on the EMEA BPM intranet.

Click here to see the replay of webcast and download the slides here.

VirtualBox image SOA Suite & BPM Suite 11.1.1.6.0–Your feedback?

The integration PM team is very pleased to announce the release of a new version of our pre-configured SOA/BPM VirtualBox image for testing and evaluation. This VirtualBox appliance contains a fully configured, ready-to-use SOA/BPM/Webcenter 11.1.1.6.0 installation.

All you need is to install Oracle VM VirtualBox on your desktop/laptop and import the SOA/BPM appliance and you are ready to try out SOA Suite and BPM Suite — no installation and configuration required!
The following software is installed in this VritualBox image:

  • Oracle Enterprise Linux (64-bit) EL 5 Update 5
  • Oracle XE Database 11.2.0
  • Oracle SOA Suite 11.1.1.6.0 (includes Service Bus)
  • Oracle BPM Suite 11.1.1.6.0
  • Oracle Webcenter Content (Enterprise Content Management) 11.1.1.6.0
  • Oracle Webcenter Suite 11.1.1.6.0
  • Oracle JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0
  • JRockit R28.2.0-79-146777-1.6.0_29s
  • Sun Java SDK 1.6.0_29-b11

If you want to try it out, please go to the Pre-built Virtual Machine for SOA Suite and BPM Suite 11g OTN page for detailed instructions on downloading and importing the VirtualBox image.

Jon Petter Hjulstad published the first impression at his blog clip_image001 Twitter & clip_image002 LinkedIn clip_image001

We have been waiting for the new VirtualBox Image for a long time, and finally it is here. The appliance has improved in many ways since last release, so it has been worth waiting for. Both the appliance itself and the documentation is excellent. It is evident that Oracle has listened to feedback on the previous release, and I think the developer VMs are useful. Especially the adoption of new patchsets and versions (ex when 12c will be available) will gain a lot from quick getting hands-on experiences. This VirtualBox appliance is a multipurpose image which can be used in different domain configurations. The image has a number of pre-configured domains that you can use depending on your need. The image can be set up so that it requires use of as few resources as possible, you can for instance easily disable B2B if you do not need it, or you can shut down the desktop console and save 600MB. It is important to say that this image is not for production purposes. Read the full article
