OIC & Simphony – Food & Beverage for All! By Niall Commiskey

imageWelcome to what will hopefully be the first post of many on integrating with Simphony. For those who don’t know –

The Simphony POS system from Oracle is built for complete restaurant management. Simphony powers the most successful food and beverage venues across the globe, from local cafés and iconic fine dining restaurants to global quick-service chains, stadiums, and theme parks. As an all-in-one cloud POS platform, it helps restaurateurs optimize their online and in-house operations in real time from any device.

I couldn’t have put it any better myself!

OHIP gives us access to Opera Cloud, the Hotel Property Management System. We all hope guests will visit the hotel bars and restaurants, where Simphony rules. Now we have REST apis that allow us to interact with this POS system.

This initial post will cover the basics, retrieving menu data from Simphony and displaying it in a Visual Builder app.

Check out the Simphony APIs

The Simphony folks kindly gave me access to a Postman collection – The first thing to note is the hierarchical nature of Simphony – e.g. I have an hotel chain, with multiple hotels, each of which may have multiple food and beverage outlets e.g. Commiskey Hotels EMEA has hotels in 40 European countries – mainly Ireland. Let’s look at one of them – Óstán Mac Cumascaigh, the pride of Baile Áthe Cliath. It has multiple bars and a fine restaurant, Jimmy’s Cistine.

Let’s transfer these entities to Simphony speak -  Read the complete article here.

Automating Accounting Hub Cloud Integration with Oracle Integration by Kishore Katta

Background (What is Accounting Hub Cloud?)image

Oracle Fusion Cloud Accounting Hub is a robust accounting engine that integrates and aligns information from virtually any source system to consistently enforce accounting policies and meet multiple reporting requirements, giving you the agility, control, and insight needed to run your business.

As an integrated accounting platform, Accounting Hub standardizes the accounting from multiple third party transactional systems to consistently enforce accounting policies and meet multiple reporting requirements in an automated and controlled fashion, and with minimal disruption to existing financial processes. The core capability of Accounting Hub is the robust accounting engine, delivering flexible configuration that captures rich elements from your existing business systems

Accounting Hub improves the agility of finance organizations with a simple process for integrating source systems into one enterprise-wide accounting platform and recording financial transactions from the subledgers to enhance reporting.

Why we need to Automate the Process of importing Transactions?

Customers with high volumes of transactions from diverse industry applications such as internet services and marketplaces, billing systems for telecommunications, core banking platforms, logistics, or claims systems for insurance, Accounting Hub can receive transaction information from these external source systems and apply rules to create detailed accounting entries to meet virtually any accounting requirement. They need to integrate new industry-specific systems or recently acquired companies into their existing environment and automate the whole process of importing accounting transactions seamlessly into Accounting Hub.

Usecase

A Financial Services company Vision Corp (a fictitous company) has multiple transaction systems (for Loans, Insurances, Billing etc.,) acquired or home-grown over a period of several years. Each of these systems have limited or no accounting & reporting capabilities. Fiscal reporting involves manual consolidation of accounting which is spread across disparate transaction systems. Vision Corp would like to centralize the process and bring down the consolidation time & efforts with touchless automated accounting & reporting processes.

Solution

Oracle Inegration capabilities are used to automate the process Subledger posting of Loan Transactions into Accounting Hub Cloud. Out of the box ERP Cloud adapter capabilities helps to integrate seamlesslly with UCM Services and ESS jobs to further simplify the import process. The solution provides automated processing to bring the transaction data files from the registered source systems into the ERP Cloud. This includes data from other external sources, such as other custom applications, transaction systems, or legacy ERP. Optionally, data transformation processing may be required for data sourced from other external files which doesn’t match the template. Read the complete article here.

The OIC ecosystem – Integration & OCI Services – an Overview by Niall Commiskey

image

Customers buy solutions not products – OIC is the solution for connecting your apps, extending your apps, gaining business insight into your business processes, creating net new web and native mobile apps on top of your app apis. But what if OIC is not enough for some use cases? Then remember OIC is a cloud native OCI service, one of many others – these "others" can be easily leveraged from OIC to provide the business solutions customers require.

The above graphic shows the OIC capabilities and the OCI Services discussed in this post. Seems a lot doesn’t it? Especially when you consider that most customers will start of with a simpler set of requirements. But let’s start with our EBS customer, who is transitioning to Fusion ERP. Yes, the graphic below is from me – apologies for it’s basic nature – but I like keeping things simple.

The above details the basic requirements from a customer perspective. Note the rest of the customer’s ecosystem is not shown here. There will probably be many other COTS and custom applications involved e.g. PeopleSoft, Siebel etc.

This post will not discuss what the customer plans to do with such – e.g. leave PSFT on-premise or maybe run it on IaaS or even transition to Fusion HCM. I also do not discuss the customer’s current on-premise integration architecture. Maybe she is using SOA Suite and will need to run many of those integrations for the near future. In other words, the transitioning from EBS to Fusion ERP means the customer has 2 ERPs for a certain length of time; the same goes for integration solutions. There is bi-directional connectivity between OIC and SOA Suite, which makes this transition easier. So now, after all of those disclaimers, let’s start…

Data Integration may be interesting for the initial seeding of EBS data in Fusion ERP. It may also be useful for high volume database replication use cases – real time data lakes / operational reporting – look at Oracle GoldenGate here. Think of data integration for large amounts of data at rest that need moving somewhere (bulk data movement / preparation) i.e. after the business processes, that put the data there, have ended. Application integration is more focused on integrating (near) real time data between the apps in your ecosystem.

I have already alluded to the fact that Application Integration is a must for ensuring communication between your ERP and its ecosystem – consider all your stovepipe apps and the horizontal business processes that traverse them.

For example, that ecosystem will also contain your CRM, where you manage your customer relationship – contacts, opportunities etc. Application Integration is there to help keep those contacts in sync as well as implement the orchestration required for your Opportunity to Order business process, amongst a multitude of other integration use cases.

You are extremely happy with your ERP of choice, and sure why wouldn’t you be? But what about that extra approval workflow that is specific to your organization? This is where App Extensions come into play. You need the ability to easily create such human centric workflows that provide that extra functionality you need. Those supplementary workflows also need to be embedded  in your ERP, so your ERP end users have a streamlined experience. Read the complete article here.

February 2022 Oracle Integration Update by Antony Reynolds

image

It is time for the February quarterly update to Oracle Integration. With holidays over and winter upon us here in the Northern Hemisphere, Bluebell the cat is pleased to share all our new features and improvements. Note that testing is still underway for these features and, although unlikely, it is possible that some will not meet our quality standard and be deferred to a later release.

Announcements & Update Windows

Currently tenant administrators get notified of OIC Gen 2 updates via notifications in the OCI console. OIC Gen 2 administrators can also see the same update notice in the OIC console, so watch out for the date of your update.

If you previously tagged your instance for update in window 1, as explained in Choose Your Update Window, then there is no need to tag it again. If it is not yet tagged for window 1, then the deadline for tagging for February was 15 January but you can still add it for the May release. Tags added after January 15 will take effect for the May and subsequent releases.

Prebuilt Connectivity Enhancements

As usual there are enhancements to existing adapters as well as important new adapters.

New & Enhanced Oracle Integration Adapters

New and enhanced adapters for both Oracle and non-Oracle applications are released this quarter:

Details on the above will follow shortly.

Process Automation

  • User interface updates
  • Display Count of Tasks for a filter Criteria

Summary

There are a number of new features in this quarterly release. The deadline to tag instances for update in the first wave passed on January 15 but now is the time to tag any untagged instances for the May release. Announcements of the deadline for May tagging will be posted in the OIC Latest Features Blog. Keep an eye out in the OCI and OIC consoles for the update notice. Enjoy the future!
