FOR PARTNERS: Ultan O’Broin and his team, from the OAUX Communications & Outreach arm, have been busy over the summer cranking away on an update to the Cloud user experience Rapid Development Kit (RDK). While we can’t tell you what’s in the update until OpenWorld, we’d suggest you take a look back at the blog posts published this summer. You’ll see RDK updates including:

As usual, you can also find Ultan’s musings on the Usableapps blog. This summer’s posts included his thoughts on wearables and smart user experiences.

MORE FROM AROUND THE WEB:

Jeremy Ashley, OAUX Group Vice President, discusses the offices of the future and Oracle’s own user experience research in a recent article in TechRepublic, “How smart offices of the future can make companies more intelligent.”

A recent article discusses the OAUX team’s long relationship with UK Oracle User Group (UKOUG) members in Oracle Scene, an online magazine published by UKOUG, in “A Decade with UKOUG.”

We are so happy to be talking about what’s new in the Oracle ERP Cloud’s user experience. Get the highlights from the Voice of User Experience, or VoX, blog in “Welcome to the Fold: Oracle ERP Cloud Release 11 UX Highlights.” This is all the stuff that Oracle’s Terrance Wampler told you was coming in “5 Reasons to Take a New Look at Oracle ERP Cloud” last April.

While we’re talking about financial applications, here’s a post about Timecard Humor: A First-Timer’s Perspective on PaaS4SaaS Partner Enablement from Vikki Lira, who took part in a workshop recently where the OAUX team helped Oracle partner Knex Technology as they designed a payroll Cloud UX solution for a customer in the entertainment industry. If you don’t know about our partner enablement activities, this will help you understand what’s available.

Back on the VoX blog, read Misha Vaughan’s post on “What I’ve Learned from 3 weeks with Pokémon GO, and How to Apply Augmented Reality to the Enterprise” for a viewpoint on how augmented reality might shape future user experiences.

What about CMMN (Case Management Model and Notation) ? by Jan van Zoggel

image

When we started our Case Management adventure the Case Management Model and Notation (CMMN) standard was still relatively new and unknown. (May 2014 the official 1.0 release was released). Both our design tool (Enterprise Architect) and implementation software (Oracle  Adaptive Case Management) did not support the CMMN notation so we created our own “way-of-modelling”.

In our teams that means that the process analysts/designers use powerful tools like SparxSystem Enterprise Architect (EA) with its integrated BPM(N) and SOA support. However manually adding text documents describing the relation the specific process or task has in the whole case. You would think that the CMMN notation could easily be integrated in one of the leading architecture and design tools out there. There are some niche products out there that see a market for CMMN modelling like Trisotech, however SparxSystem seems to have no plans at all. Read the complete article here.

BPM Worklist API 12.2.1.1 and Custom ADF 12.2.1.1 Application by Andrejus Baranovskis

image

I have updated my sample app with BPM API usage in ADF application to 12.2.1.1. Originally this was developed with ADF/BPM 11.1.1.7 – Dynamic ADF Buttons Solution for Oracle BPM Outcomes. There are several changes in BPM libraries usage. I will describe it all step by step.
Download sample application – adfbpm12211.zip. This archive contains both BPM and ADF app. BPM process implements two roles – request holiday and approve holiday:

Main goal of such use case – we don’t want to use out of the box Oracle Worklist app, but prefer to develop our own business logic and manage BPM process from custom ADF app through BPM API. It is important to initialize Workflow context one time during login, this can be heavy operation and we should not call it each time when BPM API is invoked: Read the complete article here.

My private Corner – 10.000

image

A year ago we set the ambitious goal to grow our partner communities above 10.000 members.

At our last conference I was excited to announce that the WebLogic & Developer Community achieved 2.529 members and the SOA & BPM Community 7.662 members. Combined we reached more than 10.181 partner community members. There are by far the largest and most active partner communities within the Oracle Partner Network. Every month we distribute our community newsletters, host our webcasts and interact in social media. What’s next? #jkwc

Sending Dynamic HTML-based Emails for SOA and BPM Projects by Mark Peterson

image

Sending email notifications in Oracle BPEL or BPM projects can turn into a major effort if you are not using ADF–and sometimes even if you are using ADF. If you use ADF, you can leverage features such as HTML editors and actionable emails. But in many situations you may need a stand-alone email formatting solution that doesn’t involve ADF, that can produce a simple HTML-based email, and that doesn’t need to be actionable. You will find that that simple SOA-based approach helps you implement your requirements efficiently and effectively.

This approach

  • Integrates with BPM and BPEL
  • Is HTML-based and can contain dynamic information from a database
  • Leverages BPEL and BPM direct assignments and role-based assignments
  • Includes a template selector, for sending different types of emails
  • Handles attachments
  • Intercepts and redirects emails for testing purposes

A detailed description of this email notification system is described below. Upon request we would be happy to provide the actual project code describe here.

Input XML

This is a sample of the input XML. Notice the data includes

  • A record ID – Used to pull data from the database for embedding information in the email
  • An array of "TO" email addresses – Use to lookup email addresses from user names or BPM application roles. Read the complete article here.

PCS 16.3.5 New Features Part 1 –> Introduction to Web Forms by Niall Commiskey

image

Your starting point should be the What’s New doc for PCS 16.3.5. Click here to read it.
One of the most interesting additions is the new web forms functionality.
Let’s be honest, the previous Frevvo based forms were rather basic, they’ve even been renamed Basic Forms. So now you have the choice, you take either the basic forms – very effective for eGov style forms based apps – or else the new web forms with their richer UI. So let’s take a look.

Web Forms

From the docs –
This release introduces a powerful and intuitive new forms editor for creating forms without rules scripting. The editor lets developers create multiple views (presentations) for a single form, reuse forms within forms, brand them by uploading a CSS stylesheet, create list of values (LOV) tables, and fetch data using REST connections. The new forms editor is called Web Forms, and the existing forms editor is now called Basic Forms. Read the complete article here.
