API Catalog 12c Full Overview by Luis Weir

clip_image002Oracle has recently released Oracle Enterprise Repository (OER) 12c and Oracle API Catalog (OAC) 12c.I am particularly exited on the latter as it aims to simplify management of APIs and promises to be able to create catalog of your services and APIs rapidly. Furthermore, although OER 12c maintains the same richness as in OER 11g, this product is targeted to advance users that are in need to address more complex governance requirements whereas OAC it’s a light-weight version of OER however tailored to address specific use cases of API management such as cataloguing, discovering and rating APIs.
This blog is about my first impression when installing, configuring and using Oracle API Catalog. In the blog I provide all steps I followed to achieve these tasks and at the end I provide a summary of my experience and feedback of the product.

Installation Pre-requisites

  • Download Weblogic Server 12.1.3 and OER 12.1.3 software binaries from following link (note that OAC uses same OER installer)

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/repository/downloads/index.html

  • You will need an Oracle Database installed (you may also download database from previous link). If you already have an environment with an Oracle Database available you can check supported versions from following link

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/downloads/fusion-certification-100350.html

  • Ensure you have installed JDK 7.0 Update 55 or later. You can download it from the following link:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

  • Oracle API Catalog Home Page and Installation Guide:

https://docs.oracle.com/middleware/1213/oac/index.html
https://docs.oracle.com/middleware/1213/oac/install-cat/toc.htm

Installation

Firstly install Oracle Database and Weblogic Server as per instructions.

Then continue with installation of OAC 12c as per following instructions: https://docs.oracle.com/middleware/1213/oac/install-cat/intro.htm#CATIG146

SOA 12.1.3 Demo System at Oracle – Mobile Order Management

Request access to our middleware demo systems here

Using an order management scenario, we show how to use Oracle Mobile Suite to integrate with Oracle Applications (EBS in this case). The use case is order management for a sporting goods manufacturing company that provides its mobile sales force with real time access to the backend EBS data as well as business Key Process Indicators (fulfillment accuracy, backorders, order status).

Highlights

  • Develop using Mobile Application Framework, to provide tight device services integration and native user experience.
  • Connect and integrate to backend applications via Oracle Service Bus 12c and the Oracle EBS Adapter.
  • Secure access using EBS SDK for Java and Oracle Web Services Manager, for enterprise grade mobile security.
  • Internet Accessible – No VPN is required to execute the mobile application.

Start expired instances in waiting state for Oracle SOA Suite by Reinhold Becker

clip_image002In a BPEL process there are some use cases where a Wait activity or the onAlarm branch of a Pick activity is needed. An example for an onAlarm branch is a timeout mechanism for an asynchronous call. These activities save the instance in the dehydration store for a defined time. To wake up the waiting instances there is a quartz scheduler job running in the weblogic and check the expiration date in the dehydration store. For the case the dehydration store is not available, the scheduler retry to call the database. The retry settings can be found in the advanced BPEL properties in the System MBean Browser. The properties are named ExpirationMaxRetry and ExpirationRetryDelay. When the retry failed the data sets won’t be cleaned from the dehydration store.

The suggestion to clean this is to click on the Button “Refresh Alarm Table” in the Recovery console. But it is unpleasent to click the button periodically, so the wish appear to do this automated. There is a way for an automatically clean. Just start a job on the SOA Suite Database with the following SQL script. Read the complete article here.

SOA Suite 12c: Getting started with the Spring Component by Maarten Smeets

clip_image001The Oracle SOA Suite Spring component has been present since SOA Suite 11.1.1.3 (11gR1 PS2). This component allows easy integration of Java code with other SOA Suite components such as (among others) BPEL, BPM and Business Rules. In SOA Suite 12c (12.1.3.0) this component is still present. In This blog post I will provide a short example on how it can be used and how the first problem I encountered with this component can be avoided.

Implementation

First create a SOA Application and an empty project. Next create a Java class with a public method and extract an interface with the public method. You can also supply JARs in the SCA-INF/lib folder of the project with the class/interface.

The result in this example. The Java class extends the interface. Read the complete article here.

Tame the Cloud Integration Beast

clip_image002

View the eBook: Integrate the Cloud.
Software as a service is widely known for its ease of deployment. Less understood is the integration rat’s nest that can result when many SaaS applications are introduced within a company without a cohesive strategy.

Dain Hansen, director of integration product marketing for Oracle, says problems result when organizations bring in various cloud apps without a well-planned strategy that also takes into account on-premise software and systems.

"It’s just so hard to get things to talk together," says Hansen.

SaaS offerings have become very popular because they can be implemented quickly and easily by business units and individual users. Yet, because some of that implementation is outside the purview of IT organizations and others are simply stand-alone, it has led to a proliferation of online technology assets that are isolated from on-premise systems, unable to tap into valuable data stores or other sources of business expertise. BPM 12.1.3 Process Documentation Sample available on java.net

clip_image002Two weeks ago I blogged about the new features and improvements to process documentation in Oracle BPM 12.1.3. A sample is now available on java.net for download. This sample includes:
  • A lab document explaining how to use the import feature in Oracle BPM Composer and Studio to convert Visio, XPDL, BPMN 2.0, Oracle Workflow, and Tutor documents into BPM processes. A sample Visio file is included in the download so you can see how the feature works.
  • The same lab document leads you through adding process documentation via the business properties.
  • You are also guided through using the narrative view to edit your sample process.
  • Then the lab prompts you to create process reports to bring all of your process documentation together in one HTML or PDF document.

The sample also includes a lab solution so you can import the project with all of the process documentation already added.
