“Cloud Integration in Minutes” – True or False? By Bruce Tierney

The short answer is “yes”. Connecting on-premise and cloud applications “in minutes” is true…provided you only consider the connectivity subset of integration and have a small number of cloud integration touch points.

At the recent Gartner AADI conference, 230 attendees filled up the Oracle session to get a more comprehensive answer to this question. During the session, titled “Simplifying Integration – The Cloud & Mobile Pre-requisite”, Oracle’s Tim Hall described cloud connectivity and then, equally importantly, the other essential and sometimes overlooked aspects of integration required to ensure a long term application and service integration strategy. To understand the challenges and opportunities faced by cloud integration, the session started off with a slide that describes how connectivity can quickly transition from simplicity to complexity as the number of applications and service vendor instances grows: Reasons for Cloud Integration Complexity
Increased complexity puts increased demand on the integration platform
As companies expand from on-premise applications into a hybrid on-premise/cloud infrastructure with support for mobile, cloud, and social, there is a new sense of urgency to implement a unified and comprehensive service integration platform. SOA Community Newsletter February 2013

Dear SOA partner community member

In this newsletter edition we highlighted many new online demos for SOA, BPM and OEP. Being a partner, you can use the same demo systems that Oracle pre-sales consultants use every day for customers. Out of the box demos including a flow & script have been updated. Demos are key in the sales process! To access the DSS demo systems please visit OPN and feel free to talk to your Partner Expert!

With the rise of big and fast data SOA and pattern matching can play a key role, make sure you attend our webcast and get the latest whitepaper. To design SOA architectures, OASIS published a SOA reference architecture and EAIESB a SOA BPEL 2.0 Poster. If you work on SOA project make sure you follow the C2B2 SOA Tuning webcast series and I recommend you to try the SOA Testing utilities.

In the BPM section we published new papers such as Transforming Customer Experience,Cooking Up Successful BPMand BPM in Utilities. In addition to this the BPM DSS Demos to extend Siebel are available. Mark Nelson published a blog post about Collecting diagnostic information for BPM and Jan van Zoggel about Integration of Oracle BPM and Oracle UCM/WCC. Please read these publications and make yourself updated from these shared knowledge.

Quality Analysis for SOA and Cloud

With Gebhart Quality Analysis (QA) 82, the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the European Union support the quality analysis in the context of service-oriented architectures and cloud. Gebhart Quality Analysis (QA) 82 offers quality analyses of service-oriented architectures and cloud services, certifications of services, and trainings.

The quality analyses help customers to identify untapped potential regarding the flexibility and maintainability of their architecture. This enables to improve their architecture with focus on strategic goals and to reduce IT costs. The QA82 Architecture Analyzer tool enables automatic, thus efficient analyses.
With certifications customers demonstrate that their services satisfy today’s state of the art in the context of quality attributes of services and support the achievement of strategic goals. Especially software producers prove that their products can be efficiently integrated into an existing application landscape. As this aspect constitutes an important decision factor when choosing a product, customers significantly increase the value of their products.
The trainings target the systematic design of service-oriented architectures and cloud services with focus on quality attributes by means of formalized languages, such as UML and SoaML.

The fundamentals of services offered have been acquired at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany within several years of research. The examined quality attributes are publicly accessible representing an essential characteristic of the philosophy: Gebhart Quality Analysis (QA) 82 stands for transparency in research and practice.

To make your New Year successful, we would like to invite you to our Fusion Middleware Partner Community Forum 2013. This is the best platform to learn and become certified on middleware. Our major tracks include SOA, BPM and ADF & WebLogic. If you are also an expert in middleware, you can learn more about new products and features like BPM PS6 or b2b and event processing. The event is also a great opportunity to network within the partner community and with the Oracle product management team. Make sure you register asap – as only 120 seats are available this year!

In this newsletter edition you will find two major topics: b2b and cloud computing. On the b2b side Martien van den Akker and the A-Team published a series of articles. Accenture Foundation Platform for Oracle (AFPO) – Your pre-build & tested middleware platform

The Accenture Foundation Platform for Oracle (AFPO) is a pre-built, tested reference application, common services framework and development accelerator for Oracle’s Fusion Middleware 11g product suite that can help to reduce development time and cost by up to 30 percent.

AFPO is a unique accelerator that includes documentation, day one deliverables and quick start virtual machine images, along with access to a skilled team of resources, to reduce risk and cost while improving project quality. It can be delivered all at once or in stages, on-site, hosted, or as a cloud solution.

Accenture recently released AFPO v5 for use with their clients. Accenture added significant updates in v5 including Day 1 images & documentation for Webcenter & ADF Mobile that are integrated with 30 other Oracle Middleware products that signifigantly reduced the services aspect to standing these products up.

AFPO v5 also features rapid configuration and implementation capabilities for SOA/BPM integrated with Oracle WebCenter Portal, Oracle WebCenter Content, Oracle Business Intelligence, Oracle Identity Management and Oracle ADF Mobile.

AFPO v5 also delivers a starter kit for Oracle SOA Suite which builds upon the integration methodology, leading practices and extended tooling contained within the Oracle Foundation Pack. The combination of the AFPO starter kit and Foundation Pack jump-start and streamline Oracle SOA Suite implementation initiatives, helping to reduce the risk of deploying new technologies and making architectural decisions, so clients can ultimately reduce cost, risk and the time needed for an implementation.
