Book Birthday by Phil Wilkins

imageI had an interesting conversation today, where it was pointed out to me that our book Implementing Oracle Integration Cloud Service, the first ever Oracle PaaS book is five years old today (according to Amazon). This website was also five years old back in August last year. While some parts of the UI have become more sophisticated than shown in the book, and the choice of adaptors has grown significantly the core fundamentals of the book still hold true. Of course the book is only as good as the technology, and Oracle Integration continues to fly in the Gartner Magic Quadrant. So Happy Birthday us, and congratulations Oracle, and thankyou to our readers. Read the complete article here.

Using FlexDeploy with Oracle Integration Cloud A Customer Success Story by Maxx Williams

image

After an initial FlexDeploy implementation for E-Business Suite, Oracle SOA Suite, and Enterprise Data Warehouse, one FlexDeploy customer quickly expanded usage across their enterprise. The team’s Applications Manager explained “we saw so much benefit and such immediate gains that we said if we’re going to implement new software, can it work with FlexDeploy? And if it can’t, maybe we don’t want to do it.”

Adopting Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC)

The team is forward-thinking and innovative, open to incorporating and adopting emerging technologies, processes, and tooling. The organization and technology footprint were growing rapidly, and they needed a more effective and scalable approach for application integration. The work building, managing, and maintaining the existing solution was keeping things steady, but it was not furthering business initiatives at the required rate and pace.

As the team started investigating options, OIC quickly emerged as the leader. They already had a hybrid on-prem/multi-cloud strategy. OIC naturally fit in as a PaaS Service ready to communicate with systems important to them such as ADP, Oracle EBS, and Salesforce.

Around the same time FlexDeploy was being implemented, the team began their work with OIC. They quickly realized they could make a lot of improvements in their process by implementing FlexDeploy’s deployment procedures. Without FlexDeploy (or another deployment tool), OIC users must manually manage changes, export and copy files to local machines, and maintain credentials in multiple places. Additionally, there’s little control over who has access to systems; anyone with admin privileges could massage any of these tasks. After a month of having a production OIC instance, the team knew it was time to bring in FlexDeploy.

As the Applications Manager shared “seeing the gaps after the first OIC deployment without FlexDeploy started raising the little red flags that we had addressed with FlexDeploy in our other systems. Those red flags were a clear sign we had to make the change.” Read the complete article here.

Oracle Integration invoking OCI Functions (python) – Part 1 Creating the python function by Niall Commiskey

image

OIC is part of the OCI family, a family of rich services that can be leveraged from your integrations and processes. This post shows how easy it is to create a python function in OCI Functions. The next post will cover leveraging this python function from OIC. So to the simple use case – product discounts – the python function will apply these for me. I know it is a banal example but aren’t we all experts at extrapolating? Starting point is a simple python function I have created.

This is a simple helloWorld example, I will modify to include the discount functionality I mentioned at the outset -  the business logic is simple – If the product is iBike and the quantity ordered is > 30 then apply a 10% discount; all other others get a 5% discount. Here is the revised code – first I make a copy of the default function. Read the complete article here.
