SOA Starter Day @ jax 2009

Our SOA Team organized an excellent „SOA Starter Day” as part of the jax 2009 conference. The room was over-crowded and the feedback was great.

Presentations included:
• SOA reference architecture & optimal SOA demo
• BPM myth and reality
• SOA classifications
• Loose coupling
• UI Patterns: interfaces for SOA
• Transactions in SOA
• SOA Security
• Canonical Data Model

As a resume of the panel discussion we see that SOA becomes mature and SOA adoption continues to grow. As a survival role in the current economic situation it is key that your SOA business case is focused on:
• It’s now all about cutting cost and improving efficiency (time to market won’t count…)
• Immediate (& on-going) cost savings
• Iterative programs (no big bang)
• Self-funding

Special thanks to the team:
Torsten Winterberg & Hajo Normann & Bernd Trops & Clemens Utschig & Berthold Maier.

We are more than happy to support you if you want to run a similar event. To access all information about Oracle SOA Suite and to become a member in SOA Partner Community please fell free to sign up: http://www.oracle.com/goto/emea/soa (OPN account required)

Oracle announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Sun Microsystems

Oracle and Sun

On April 20, 2009, Oracle announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Sun Microsystems (Sun). The proposed transaction is subject to Sun stockholder approval, certain regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. Until the deal closes, each company will continue to operate independently, and it is business as usual.

The acquisition combines best-in-class enterprise software and mission-critical computing systems. Oracle plans to engineer and deliver an integrated system—applications to disk—where all the pieces fit and work together so customers do not have to do it themselves. Customers benefit as their system integration costs go down while system performance, reliability and security go up.

There are substantial long-term strategic customer advantages to Oracle owning two key Sun software assets: Java and Solaris. Java is one of the computer industry’s best-known brands and most widely deployed technologies, and it is the most important software Oracle has ever acquired. Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle’s fastest growing business, is built on top of Sun’s Java language and software. Oracle can now ensure continued innovation and investment in Java technology for the benefit of customers and the Java community.

Oracle Fusion Middleware is the market leader and receives additional Industry and Innovation Awards

Market Leading Share and Revenue Growth

Oracle Receives Three Banking-Industry Leaders in Innovation Awards from Financial i
In its third annual Leaders in Innovation Awards, Financial i—a leading publication for the global transaction banking industry—recognized Oracle Fusion Middleware with three awards in its network services and risk management categories.

The Leaders in Innovation Awards provide recognition for those global transaction banks and financial hardware and software vendors that have excelled in terms of innovation in business solutions across wholesale transaction banking encompassing securities services, treasury & FX, data management, network services, and risk management.

According to the editors of Financial i, “Criteria we looked at included: innovations in global transaction banking business solutions over the last 12 months; what upgrades were made to existing solutions; functionality enhancements; depth and breadth of functionality; customer service segments; the ease with which customers can implement these solutions and integrate them with existing business applications; and the extent to which these solutions help firms resolve business issues, whether it is regulatory compliance, combating money laundering, reducing market data latency or helping firms build an end-to-end enterprise data management fabric.”

Oracle’s Network Services Awards:
Winner Best Enterprise Application Integration (EAI): Oracle SOA Suite
The publication noted, “Oracle has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past few years. Its open standards, preintegrated approach to application integration—otherwise known as Oracle Fusion Middleware—holds out significant promise for customers of its growing application portfolio. Oracle’s approach to integration is based around what it calls an Application Integration Architecture, a platform on which the vendor is pre-integrating particular business processes that cross over different applications. An example in its financial services global business unit is bank account origination. Oracle’s acquisition of BEA Systems should only add to it.”

Winner Best Enterprise Service Bus: Oracle Enterprise Service Bus
Financial i wrote: “The emergence of its SOA Suite, initially built on Oracle’s enterprise service bus (ESB) and moving soon to recently acquired BEA System’s highly-rated AquaLogic Service Bus, has cemented Oracle’s position at the head of the service bus market.… Oracle’s ESB for financial services was certified SWIFT-ready, easing the implementation for organizations building applications for payments, settlements and electronic trading, and that work will also be carried over to the new Oracle Service Bus.”

SOA Partner Community Forum VII – AIA Foundation Pack & SOA Suite 11g Expert Camps

During our 7th SOA Partner Community Forum in Malaga our key topics how you can achieve cost reduction based on Oracle SOA technology.

Special thanks to our partners:
• Jorn Schurinik, Logica
• Sebastian Graf, Promatis
• Steven Boon, Accenture
• Torsten Winterberg, Opitz
• Hajo Normann EDS
• Mike van Alst, IT-Eye
• Herald Wolf, Wolf Consulting

who presented excellent case studies and workshops. Special thanks to the Oracle team who delivered also excellent workshops and presentations. If you like to download the presentations or you missed the event please register and visit the Oracle SOA Partner Community www.oracle.com/goto/emea/soa (OPN account required)

During our Expert Camp workshops we trained our partners hands-on in AIA Foundation Pack and SOA Suite 11g.

AIA becomes key in the Oracle portfolio to integrate out of the box Oracle Applications with each other e.g. Siebel with Peoplesoft and with their party applications. AIA Foundation Pack enables you to simplify cross-application business process integrations using a standards-based, prebuilt integration solution. Designed to promote rapid deployment, re-usability, and configurability of business processes, AIA Foundation Pack saves significant time, effort and cost, compared to building integrations from the ground up and helps you realize the value of a SOA at an accelerated pace. Special thanks to Christopher Venezia who did run the AIA Foundation Pack Expert Camp.

The hands-on SOA Suite 11g gave our partners the opportunity to become trained with the new concept of a Service Component Architecture (SCA). The standards-based SCA architecture for SOA enables us to package up applications and services and easily deploy them across the entire grid architecture. Furthermore, we can rapidly scale those applications with a minimum amount of effort and resources. Special thanks to Clemens Utschig-Utschig who did run the SOA Suite 11g Expert Camp.

ISVs Fusion Middleware Adoption & Innovation by GIP and convergin

ISVs Fusion Middleware Adoption & Innovation by GIP and convergin

Last month I attended a conference from a very innovative ISV GIP: Their Xyenia solution becomes key for German Telecommunications Providers. Many companies like Deutsche Telekom AG, Kabel BW or Arcor adopted their solution. Xynia is fully build on Oracle technology, database including Real Application Cluster for high availability and of course our complete middleware stack OC4J and Oracle SOA Suite.

Our next joint challenge is to adopt Oracle Weblogic Server. Therefore we offer for our ISVs a special migration service. In our labs we will support with best practices a most seamless migrations.

With the joint BEA and Oracle forces in Communications we are the key middleware player in this industry. Another great example is also our partner convergin who presented their solution in our Next Generation IN (NGIN) Infrastructure webcast in December.

Please feel free to contact us any time if we can support to adopt your solution on Oracle Weblogic. For more details please visit our SOA Partner Community www.oracle.com/goto/emea/soa (OPN account required)
