Why the Cloud is Like an Orchestra and PaaS the Conductor by Dain Hansen

clip_image002

Musical instruments sound great on their own, but they’re even better when played together: the same applies to cloud services

For many years, cloud adoption was presented as a series of choices. These included such decisions as whether to adopt public or private cloud; or to ignore both and to stick with on-premise enterprise IT systems. Businesses also had to get to grips with a wide variety of services – starting with Software as a Service (SaaS) and then moving swiftly on to Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS). This raised further questions: which of these services would benefit them the most? Which should they invest in immediately and for which could they afford to wait?

With the coming of age of cloud computing, it is now clear that while key decisions still need to be made, making the right choices for the business has never been easier. This is because it is now clear that the future for enterprise IT doesn’t lie in the implementation of one or two cloud services (no matter how strategic) so much as in a holistic adoption of the cloud in all its forms. This is because the value of cloud services and infrastructure increases exponentially when delivered as an orchestrated whole.

In the same way the sound of a lone saxophonist is in no way comparable to the power of a full orchestra; likewise, businesses that have a holistic cloud strategy are in a different league to those that run isolated elements of the cloud. While the latter might enjoy productivity and costs benefits in the short term, the former stand to deliver far greater benefits from the complete transformation of their businesses. PCS: Starting a process instance remotely by Rubén Rodríguez Santiago

clip_image001

While implementing an Oracle Process Cloud Service PoC we had the requirement to allow users to start an instance using a form in their custom mobile application and also using the workspace.

We have a ‘Form Start Event’ so users can start the instance thought the workspace. We also added a ‘Message Start Event’ in order to publish it as a web service.

Having that process deployed, if we head to ‘Deployed Applications’ in workspace main page.

And click on the button in ‘Actions’ column.

We can see the web services exposed.

If we use that wsdl url in soapui we see that we have 2 operations, one for each of the start events.

Executing both, we can see that even using ‘Form Start Event’ we can start a process instance remotely as an operation is automatically created in the web service, so we can remove the ‘Message Start Event’ as we can meet both requirements just using the ‘Form Start Event’. ICS Update – On premise Agent now Available by Arturo Viveros

clip_image001

Hello appreciated readers, here’s hoping to a fun and successful 2016 for you all!!

And for us Oracle FMW practitioners, there are some very exciting news to begin the year:
Yours truly has been following for a while the development and growth of Oracle’s iPaaS platform: "Integration Cloud Service". And it’s been a long wait, but at long last the ultra hyped On-Premise Agent has been released and is now available for all ICS subscriptions.
There are some other cool and useful new features in this release (e.g. content based routing, new adapters, etc.), which we will surely discuss during the next few weeks in a different post. However, in our humble opinion the Agent is a transcendent piece of the puzzle, which will open up a whole new set of use cases and possibilities for the implementation of cloud-driven integrations with ICS. So, what does this mean?, let’s look at it graphically:

Oracle ICS was an already powerful yet simple to implement tool, suited perfectly for Cloud to Cloud Integrations but somehow limited in its potential to participate in hybrid solutions (those which also include on-prem interaction). The obvious problem here is that we know Hybrid Architectures are still predominant among organizations in the midst of a cloud adoption strategy. And that’s why the Agent is a real game-changer: Read the complete article here.
