Invoking REST Service from Oracle ACM Java Activity by Andrejus Baranovskis

clip_image002In this post I will show you, how to call REST service from ACM Java activity class method. This could be useful in the situations, when you would like to have programmatic ACM activity integrated with REST service data. We could access ACM payload data from within the method overriden in the class implementing Case Activity Callback.

ACM activity implemented on top of Java class, contains the same properties and configuration as the regular one. You could define input/output data, execution properties, etc.:

Here is the Java code to invoke REST service from the Java class implementing ACM activity. I’m giving an example to parse ACM payload and access Last Name attribute. REST service is invoked through a library packaged with FMW 12c: Read the complete article here.

How To Start a Case in Oracle Adaptive Case Management 12c by Andrejus Baranovskis

clip_image002Blog reader was asking to describe how to start a new case in Oracle ACM 12c. You can read my previous blog post on ACM 12c topic – Adaptive Case Management 12c and ADF Human Tasks. There are multiple ways to start a case, depends if you want just to test the case or really use it. I would recommend to use SoapUI to test the case. In the real scenario, case most likely will be started from third party web service or through ACM 12c Java API. Here I would like to describe, how you could use SoapUI to test ACM process during development.
Once ACM 12c application is deployed, you could open it in EM. There is the option to test deployed composite and invoke it through EM Web Service tester. In the example below you can see startCase operation selected and payload structure displayed. Unfortunately it doesn’t work well to test ACM process through EM, payload structure is very confusing and it usually fails with mandatory attributes missing errors:

Instead I would recommend to use SoapUI to test the ACM 12c composite. You could download and use it free of charge. Start the tool and choose to create New SOAP Project: Read the complete article here.

Mobile Suite Service Bus REST and ADF BC SOAP by Andrejus Baranovskis

clip_image002One of the key parts of Oracle Mobile Suite 12c offering is Service Bus product. This is logical choice – Service Bus allows to transform complex SOAP Web Service data into simplified REST format, preferred by mobile client. I think it is essential to use Service Bus, when implementing enterprise mobile applications. It makes sense to learn how Oracle Service Bus works. I would recommend to start from Steven Davelaar excellent tutorial article, available here – Creating a Mobile-Optimized REST API Using Oracle Service Bus – Part 2.
I have created my own ADF BC application with SOAP WS – findEmployees method (filters by first and last name). Here you can download both applications – MobileServiceBusApp_v1.zip. Keep in mind, for some reason Service Bus server doesn’t start with JDEV 12c BPM Default Domain, it works only with JDEV 12c SOA Default Domain. Make sure to check, which JDEV you are using, you can check the list features installed: ADF BC SOAP service is implemented to support Master-Detail (Employee – Department Managed by Employee) structure: Read the complete article here.

Adaptive Case Management 12c and ADF Human Tasks by Andrejus Baranovskis

clip_image002I’m diving into the new topic – Adaptive Case Management 12c and ADF integration. Today will be the first post in the category and there are more posts planned for the future. I strongly believe that ACM (Adaptive Case Management) makes a great extension for standard BPM. Mainly because it allows to define a loose process, without strict order steps. Process steps can be executed in different order, depending on the situation requirements, at given time. I will be explaining how to implement ADF Human Task for ACM activity and will share several tips, how to make it run in BPM Workspace application.
This is how sample application (HotelBookingProcessing_v1.zip) is constructed, there are two Human Tasks (AddHotelBooking and ValidateHoteBooking) and HotelBookingProcessing Case control:

HotelBookinfProcessing case is defined with Hotel Booking Details data type (this type is based on XSD schema and is defined as Business Component variable – don’t mix up with ADF Business Components) – you can think about it as about main data structure type for the case, this can be transferred into every case activity: Read the complete article here.

BPM Authentication On Behalf Business User from ADF by Andrejus Baranovskis

clip_image002This is the next post in the series of ADF/BPM integration, check previous post available here – Dynamic ADF Buttons Solution for Oracle BPM Outcomes. Here I’m going to describe how you could authenticate with BPM from ADF through a proxy user, on top you could apply only business user name, password will not be required.
There is API method available – authenticateOnBehalf(context, userName), you must have a valid connection context created and with authenticateOnBehalf method you could set to use any valid user name, instead of proxy user. Here is the example for Workflow Context: Read the complete article here.

Dynamic ADF Form Solution for Oracle BPM Process by Andrejus Baranovskis

clip_image002I was working recently on integrating ADF 11.1.2.4 and BPM 11.1.1.7 environments. This worked pretty well, all configuration was done based on my previous blog post for similar topic, only previous ADF and BPM versions – BPM 11g R1 Worklist Integration (Hacking Experiment) Into Non-SOA ADF 11g R2 Domain. Goal of this post is to describe dynamic ADF form approach associated with BPM process human task.
BPM payload contains additional element called voInstanceName. This element is supposed to contain ADF VO instance name, this instance will be used later to render dynamic ADF UI for the currently selected task:

Sample application – adfbpm11gr4.zip, is based on two separate applications. One implements simple BPM process with payload including ADF VO instance name and another implements standalone dynamic ADF application with BPM API.
There are two human tasks in BPM process. Each of these human tasks accepts a payload element with ADF VO instance name. This allows to control ADF UI from BPM process, by providing ADF VO instance name to be used in ADF. The first human task is set to work with EmployeesView1 instance: Read the complete article here.

ACM Implementation Best Practices at Fusion Middleware Partner Community Forum 2015

The Fusion Middleware Partner Community Forum takes place March 3rd & 4th in Budapest Hungary. During this annual conference You as an Oracle Partner can get the latest updates on the Fusion Middleware 12c solutions. “The Cloud Platform for Digital Business” will be the theme of the 20th conference. Keynotes will be delivered from Amit Zavery, Andrew Sutherland and SOA, BPM and Mobile product management including live demos. On the second day you can choose between three tracks: SOA, BPM or WebLogic and Mobile. As part of the BPM track Danilo Schmiedel and Andrejus Baranovskis will present:

ACM Implementation Best Practices

With Oracle BPM Suite the modeling, simulation, implementation and execution of business processes in a multi-user environment is straightforward. But how about unstructured, ad-hoc processes which are too complex and too flexible to put them into a rigid BPMN model? Think about a claim notification after a car accident – it is very difficult to model each potential option of it and a lot of effort and time is necessary to bring all varieties into the process. Think about the user interface – it has to be very dynamic in order to make optimal business decisions. If you have similar challenges this session is made for you! The speakers will provide an excellent view on implementing knowledge-intensive processes from multiple ADF & BPM projects around globe.

BPM 12c Installation Improvements and Issues with Mac by Andrejus Baranovkis

Oracle BPM 12c is improved with a great installation process – simplified and stable. You only need to download single installation package, run a wizard and after several clicks it gets installed. All required products are installed for you out of the box, no extra configuration is needed – JDeveloper, BPM/SOA extensions, BPM/SOA schemas in Java DB. Developer can focus on his development tasks, no need to spend days to install and configure development environment. You should read official guide – Quick Start for Oracle Business Process Management Suite.

Installer works on Mac OS platform, you can install entire Oracle BPM 12c infrastructure and run domain. However, it fails to open Human Task wizard, while running JDEV on Mac OS. I have developed extremely basic Oracle BPM 12c sample application, to test Human Task wizard with JDeveloper installed on Oracle Enterprise Linux and on Mac OS – BpmApplication.zip.
It works fine to load Human Task wizard with JDeveloper 12c installed on Linux:
The same Human Task fails to open with JDeveloper 12c installed on Mac OS. There is Null Pointer exception generated, thrown from JDeveloper IDE class: Read the complete article here.

Customized BPM 11g PS6 Workspace Application by Andrejus Baranovskis

I am quite often using customized BPM 11g workspace application integrated into ADF 11g custom application. You can download it for BPM 11g PS5 from my previous blog: Tips & Tricks How to Run Oracle BPM 11g PS5 Workspace from Custom ADF 11g Application.

Standard BPM 11g workspace ADF task flow is customized with MDS – ADF 11g PS5 Application with Customized BPM Worklist Task Flow (MDS Seeded Customization). I would like to present today updated workspace application to BPM 11g PS6. The reason to migrate customized BPM workspace to PS6 was because I am often using it during ADF/BPM integration trainings. Also I will be posting future posts in ADF/BPM integration area based on upgraded PS6 sample application.
Here you can download new sample tested with BPM 11g PS6 – adfbpmapp_ps6.zip. ADF 11g PS6 comes with new look&feel – new ADF skin Skyros. New ADF skin and updated UI layout gives new look for BPM 11g workspace ADF task flow. Workspace ADF task flow shipped with BPM 11g PS6 release is lighter, works faster and looks better. Do you see Register button next to task list? This is custom button added through MDS customization: Read the full article here.
