Protecting Sensitive Data in SOA Suite 12c by Jennie DeRosa

clip_image002

Given the recent security breaches, data security should always be a concern when designing and creating IT solutions. In particular, what are some considerations that should be made when implementing a solution within the Oracle SOA Suite? Is it sufficient to protect the data using WS-Security/SSL or is additional security needed? If you have sensitive data traversing through the SOA Suite then additional security must be considered.

As noted within the National Institute Standards and Technology (NIST) publication, ‘to appropriately protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information (PII), organizations should use a risk-based approach’. To understand what is considered PII, or sensitive data, along with recommendations to protect PII read Guide to Protecting the Confidentiality of Personally Identifiable Information.

WS-Security and SSL only will protect data outside a SOA composite or Service Bus. Once the data hits either one of these, it is viewable in clear text within audit trails, console or logs. This means sensitive data is viewable within the console and log, causing this data to be unencrypted at rest. An example of this is shown below. Anyone with access to EM (Enterprise Manager) could view the sensitive data just by opening the audit trail of a process:

SOA Suite 12c – Business Events and Consistency Levels by Siva

clip_image002

I have chosen Business Events as first feature to explore in recent release of SOA Suite12c. Also, I want to cross verify my earlier observations in 11g.

The initial observation is, now the new SOA project will have the folders for different artifacts and the folder Events is for edl files.

Secondly, 12c   supports One and Only one and  Guaranteed consistency only and no longer supports immediate. Also new property Durable is added to event subscriptions.

Even migration of 11g composites to 12c is resulting into error, if composite uses immediate consistency level. We have to manually make this change by choosing either of the 2 supported consistency levels. Read the complete article here.

Customizing Oracle MFT with Java Overview by Dave Berry

clip_image001Overview

Oracle MFT was designed so that the most common features are provided out of the box but when that is not enough, it should be easy enough to extend it using small snippets of customizable code. For the self industrious, you can find all that you need to get started in the Oracle MFT documentation section Processing Transfers with Custom Callouts as shown below.

If you want or need a more detailed drill down of this topic then just read on. As a quick review, remember that all custom callouts are totally reusable and parameterized so any development investment you make is generally a one time cost.

Terminology

There are many use cases and types of custom callout we will discuss here involving what the callout can do plus when and how the callout can be invoked but first a little background and terminology. Callouts is a general term that is used to describe custom java code that can be used while configuring an MFT Transfer in the MFT Designer page. MFT provides out of the box "Actions" such as compress/decompress or encrypt/decrypt that are available and like your custom callouts can all be attached by clicking the <add processing actions> button.

clip_image002

For the rest of this article I will use the term Action as it applies to both out of the box actions and custom callouts.

Types

Actions come in 2 general types: those that need to modify the payload and those that do not. The "Newline Conversion" example in the docs illustrates how to modify a file to change the newline character to or from DOS to Unix. Actions such as this need to modify the content and must implement the PluginOutput method which provides an output stream. Read the complete article here.

Upgrading Oracle SOA Suite from 11g to 12c by Danilo Schmiedel

clip_image002Today I’d like to share my presentation on upgrading Oracle SOA Suite from 11g to 12c. It contains information on how the product evolved the last couple of years. It also explains different upgrade strategies, the difference between in-flight upgrade and migration, important pre-upgrade tasks, the upgrade steps itself and post-upgrade steps.

Additionally it lists the experiences and upgrade results that we’ve achieved in two different scenarios: in-flight upgrade as well as migration. Get the presentation here and Watch his video 2 Minute Tip: Upgrading to Oracle SOA Suite 12c

clip_image002

Oracle E-Business Suite Adapter for Oracle SOA Suite 12c (12.1.3) is now available for use with the E-Business Suite.  Previous releases of this product were called Oracle Applications Adapter for Oracle SOA Suite.

You can use the Oracle E-Business Suite Adapter for Oracle SOA Suite to integrate EBS 11i, 12.1, and 12.2 with external systems.  The EBS Adapter allows you to build bidirectional standards-based real-time integrations with the E-Business Suite.  The Adapter supports JCA and web service standards for creating service-oriented applications (SOA).

What’s new in this release?

  • Adapter configuration reports: You can now view Adapter configuration reports in Oracle Fusion Middleware Control.
  • Flexfield support for Open Interface Tables:  In addition to its existing support for PL/SQL APIs, this release provides flexfield support for Open Interface Tables by displaying flexfield data and mapping if configured in Open Interface Tables at design and run time
