The integration possibilities with other Oracle Fusion middleware products is the most valuable feature of the SOA Suite solution.

Improvements to My Organization:

I’m a contractor, so my client organizations are the ones who benefit from SOA Suite. With it, it’s quite visible the number of both internal and external processes that are more integrated. Another organizational benefit is that less human intervention is required when running the suite of products in SOA.

Room for Improvement:

Although the SOA Suite solutions integrate well with Oracle Fusion middleware products, it lacks similar integration with Enterprise Manager. This is something that, in my experience working with clients, is needed for SOA Suite to be a better product.  Read the complete article here.

Using eBS Adapter in Integration Cloud Service – Part 2: Configure and Test ISG REST Services by Stefan Koser

Introduction

Integration Cloud Service (ICS) enables connecting applications in the cloud or on-premise. It also provides an adapter for Oracle eBusiness Suite. This eBS adapter is different than the eBS adapter in SOA Suite – it does not use a database connection. Instead it uses the REST services provided by eBS as part of Integrated SOA Gateway (ISG).

This article describes the steps needed to get eBusiness Suite including ISG REST services ready – either for using it with any REST client or with ICS. ISG requires some additional patches on top of eBS 12.2.4 – this was shown in this first part , see here.

In this second part, we will show how to enable the REST services, how to enable the metadata provider for ICS and test eBS REST services, first from a native REST client (SOAPUI) and then from ICS. All steps except chapter 4 are also relevant if you want to use Oracle eBusiness Suite ISG REST services without ICS.

Chapter 1 – Configure Integrated SOA Gateway (ISG) in eBS 12.2.4

Enabling ASADMIN User with the Integration Administrator Role

We will execute the steps in section 3 of the MOS note:

Log in to Oracle E-Business Suite as a SYSADMIN user and enter the associated password.
Expand the User Management responsibility from the main menu of the Oracle E-Business Suite Home Page.

Click the Users link to open the User Maintenance page (under “Vision Enterprises”)
Enter ‘ASADMIN’ in the User Name field and click Go to retrieve the ‘ASADMIN’ user.

Click the Update icon next to the ASADMIN user to open the Update User window.
Remove the Active To date field and click Apply.

Click the Reset Password icon next to ASADMIN user to open the Reset Password window. Make sure that ASADMIN’s password is at least eight characters long.
Enter new password twice and click Submit.

In the Update User window, click Assign Roles.
In the search window, select Code from the Search By drop-down list and enter “UMX|FND_IREP_ADMIN” in the value text box.
Click Select.
Enter a justification in the Justification field and click Apply. You will see a confirmation message indicating you have successfully assigned the role.

In my case, a warning is displayed (which can be ignored because the server is restarted later anyway):

No More Hidden SOA Performance Problems by Kevin King

clip_image002For anyone who has done performance and load testing in Oracle SOA suite, you know it can be frustrating and time consuming. However, our lives have just gotten much easier! Originally, quite a bit of manual work was needed to find or calculate how long composites took, what the problematic components were, and why instances just took too long. Fortunately, Oracle has introduced a new monitoring tool, Integration Workload Statistics (IWS). This tool creates a report very similar to an AWR report, but focuses on the SOA infrastructure. This feature was released with the new 12.2.1 version of SOA.

clip_image004The IWS report is intended for reactive monitoring of your system. Enterprise Manager provides a few different tools for monitoring real-time performance and other metrics, however IWS was introduced to post-process poorly performing periods. Running a report over a one hour period where performance is a constant issue allows you to see what components are causing delays. The report details out statistics on components, composites, processes, adapters, endpoints, queues and more!

IWS works by taking periodic, configurable snapshots of server metrics. These metrics are stored to the database and are available for reporting. The reports are generated based on a start and end time and further filtering can be done by server, partition, and even specific composites. Oracle has provided an easy way to view this data with a generated HTML report and they also provide a CSV file, or XML file with the data requested.

Valuable Features:

A definitive differentiator is the very good integration capability the platform provides: It has a broad spectrum of connectivity adapters to integrate with third party enterprise information systems, like SAP, Siebel, and JD Edwards, and also cloud solutions like Salesforce.

In addition, the platform comes with a standalone, first-class Service Bus component that can be used for service virtualization. This enables customers to create and edit new integrations efficiently and helps to adopt new trends or concepts, like cloud, very fast.

Aside from that, the platform also addresses business needs (process automation with BPEL), allows for further transparency for business transactions (audit trails, Business Activity Monitoring) and provides rich capabilities in the direction of fault handling and resiliency.

Improvements to My Organization:

The product allows you to visualize how a company is working currently by providing rich possibilities for analyses such as the audit trails and real-time integration and business insights, and therefore shows where improvements might be valuable. This becomes more and more important for companies to differentiate themselves from competitors.

Room for Improvement:

The Integrated Development Environment (IDE), which is JDeveloper in this case. Also, the integrated development environment could be better in some points such as the stability and the comprehensibility of errors.

Use of Solution:

How to install Oracle Real-Time Integration Business Insight by Rolando Carrasco

clip_image002Oracle Real-Time Integration Business Insight is a brand new product by Oracle, which runs on top of Oracle SOA Suite. It is a product that will allow the business users to get access to real time information that is available within the pipelines of services deployed either in Service Bus or Oracle SOA composites.
This product was released during the week of March 21st 2016,  it is very new and is a product built from scratch form Oracle, it is not part of an acquisition.

From my side, and with the help of Leonardo González and Nayelli Terrazas, I managed to install it on top of a current Oracle SOA Suite 12.2.1 domain. That is one of the first pre-requisites, to have a current 12.2.1 domain, either with just OSB, with SOA Suite or with both.

Real-Time Integration Business Insight- Business Analytics: Friendly, Powerful, Immediate

clip_image001We are very excited today to announce the availability of Oracle Real-Time Integration Business Insight, a new product in our integration portfolio that will dramatically improve the way that business owners generate and consume business analytics!

Oracle Real-Time Integration Business Insight gives business owners the ability to monitor key metrics of their enterprise in real time using pre-configured dashboards.  A differentiating feature of this product is its ability to extract these metrics even if backing data sources do not contain the raw data in a traditional store, such as a database.

Business users follow a simple three-step process to define, map, and monitor business clip_image003metrics.

First, a model of the business is created using a simple browser-based designer.  The model defines concepts important to the business, such as milestones, measures, and dimensions.

Second, the model is mapped by an architect to application services and components so that business-level metrics can be extracted during normal business activity.  Architects can select services and components for mapping using simple visualizations of application structure in their browser.

Finally, the model is activated and the collection of metrics begins immediately.  Stakeholders can start tracking metrics using pre-configured dashboards, tables, and reports.  Customized dashboards and reports can also be created that let business owners prioritize metrics that are most important to their success.

Customers are demanding more direct control and customization for end-users of business applications and Oracle Real-Time Integration Business Insight offers the flexibility that business users are looking for.
